Our Story · เรื่องราวของเรา

We opened this restaurant
for the children.

We have kept this promise since 2019 — when we opened in September and had to close in December, as the silence of a tourism-less, income-less pandemic fell over our Mai Khao community.

When we reopened in 2021, the hardship that everyone in Phuket had endured changed us. We chose to build a sharing business — a restaurant whose profits would go toward developing 120 young children at Ban Mai Khao School. In 2022, Michelin gave us the opportunity to grow, and we haven't looked back.

Our model is rooted in something real. It begins with a great-grandmother whose recipes have fed our family for over a century. A chef who grew up in this house, who loves to cook, who absorbed อาม่า's teaching: "Good food starts with good ingredients." We source from Phuket's own communities — ผักลิ้นห่าน from Mai Khao farmers who have revived a coastal crop into a family business; Phuket Lobster from the Moken sea people of Tha Chatchai; and GI-certified Phuket Pineapple from growers who have tended this land for generations.

Years on, our guests love the food. The community earns more. The children have a safer school — its classrooms repaired from our profits. We are grateful for the fate that brought everyone to this red table: a neighbourhood restaurant that grows, together, and sustainably.

"Cook like home. Source with care. Feed with love."

Michelin Bib Gourmand

6 Consecutive Years · 2021–2026

The Michelin Bib Gourmand recognises restaurants that offer exceptionally good food at a moderate price — a distinction we've earned every year since 2021. This is not a Michelin Star. It's something we value more: recognition that great food doesn't need to cost the earth.

Journey Back to Baan Ar-Jor in 1936

150 THB

Inspired by the antique red table in Baan Ar-Jor's dining room. Cream cheese with white chocolate, crispy noodles, and a surprise of sweet-spicy dried shrimp — a memory of the family table, aged but timeless.

มัลเบอรี่น้ำผึ้งมะนาว · Mulberry Honey & Lime Sorbet

Pink Peony

120 THB

A tribute to อาจ้อหญิง, the great-grandmother who gave this house its soul. Torch ginger brings the pink, honey brings the warmth, and mulberry-lime sauce from the entrance garden adds a lively, feminine finish — just like the pink peony she painted on the wall.

อ่องหลายเกลือเคย · Phuket Pineapple & Spicy Shrimp Paste

GI-Certified Phuket Pineapple · No Added Sugar

120 THB

Phuket pineapple — sweet, fragrant, with an edible core — blended into a sorbet with no added sugar. Finished with เกลือเคย, the southern shrimp-paste dip that every Phuketian knows by heart.

ช็อคโกแลตข้าวพอง · Milky Dark Chocolate & Rice Cracker

The Spirit of Sharing

120 THB

Organic milk, 100% Phuket cocoa in two layers — milk chocolate then dark — topped with rice crackers from the last rice field in Mai Khao. Three layers, like the three things a child needs: foundation, depth, and joy.

MeKhong Sorbet · 35% ABV Thai Rum

Local Lime · Spices · คลองโรงเหล้า

200 THB

Next door to Baan Ar-Jor runs a canal once called Khlong Rong Lao, where neighbours brewed traditional coconut spirits. A nod to that history: MeKhong Thai rum, local lime, and spices in one audacious scoop. Must try.

Foundation

Children at Ban Mai Khao School

The มูลนิธิบ้านอาจ้อ (Baan Ar-Jor Foundation) was born from a simple belief: to truly help a child, you must help the entire family. We work within the Mai Khao community to support children in need — funding school renovations, improving teacher housing, and ensuring that no child falls through the cracks due to poverty or hardship.

We stand beside families facing the hardest moments — abuse cases, terminal illness, children left without a parent. Over ฿1,500,000 has been directed toward school renovations and hospital oncology support at Vachira Phuket. Every meal at TOH DAENG is part of this. Our staff, our vegetables, our ingredients — all sourced from this same community we serve.
